The Crow's Nest
Order of the Arrow

June 2004

Chapter Chief

My Fellow Arrowmen,

Let me once again congratulate the new members on your successful completion of your ordeal, and also our new brotherhood members. You are now an official member of the Order of the Allow. Although your Ordeal may have been tough do not let it give you the wrong impression, this was a test of your devotion to scouting and now you may participate in all of our. fun events. The Crow Chapter has many which are coming up and waiting for you to join. The first will be our beach BBQ, On June 19 we will be having food, fun, and fellowship at the beach. From June 25-27 we will be participating in a service project assisting the relay for life at Fullerton High School. We will have a team that will run laps and also some other people may help with various service projects. There are many things which need to be done and any help you can give would be much appreciated.

How would you like to be a part of OA history? There are still slots open for youth to attend the biggest event the OA puts on. Spend about 7 days in Ames, Iowa at the University of Iowa for the National Order of the Arrow Conference. Participate in sports and classes with quality teachers to help you understand anything you would ever want to know about the OA. Also the Wiatava Lodge is planning to send the largest contingent ever of 125 people. Spots are filling quickly so sign up A.S.A.P!

During the weekend of September 10-12 the Wiatava Lodge will be having our annual Pow-Wow. Here we will compete against other Chapters to find out who the best Chapter in the L \odge is. And the only way for us to win is for you to participate and help out. People are needed to do everything from making spirit items, running the camp promo booth, competing in ceremonies, and competing in sports. It is a lot of fun and a great event for new arrowmen to learn about the OA.

Lastly, there is one of our Chapter's biggest events. The La Habra Lions Club needs our help for their annual Corn Festival. From August 4 th to August 8 th we are asked to do nightly security and during the day we man the gates. It is a lot fun and the more people that attend the more fun we have. There will be plenty of food and of course lots of corn. So join us at El Centro Park in La Habra for this great event.

Most importantly we would like all of you to attend our Chapter Meeting to learn about all the events and have a great time. They are at 7:30 PM at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in La Habra (where the downhill was) on the 4 th Thursday of the month. Our next one will be an ice cream social on June 24, 2004. Be sure to be there so you may greet your new brothers.

Yours in Brotherhood,
- Justin W.

Crow Chapter Advisor's Corner

Congratulations to those of you who successfully completed your Ordeal. On behalf of the entire membership of Crow Chapter OA , I would like to welcome you to the Wiatava Lodge and the Crow Chapter of the Order of the Arrow . As you have learned the OA is the Boy Scouts of America's Honor Society. It is our goal and duty to promote living our lives by the Scout Oath and the Scout Law, while promoting cheerful service and brotherhood. The OA is dedicated to helping other and service, but it is not the only thing that we do. The Chief has discussed many of the activities that will be happening in the coming months. I would encourage you to participate in as many of these activities as you can. Also, you should get involved in our Chapter by joining one or more of the committees that exist to support our activities. We are looking for a number of OA Troop Representatives to promote the OA in your individual Troop. OA Troop Rep. Is a leadership position that completes the leadership requirement for your Star, Life or Eagle rank advancement. If you are interested in representing your Troop, you should get with Chuckie C., and discuss if with you Scoutmaster. I look forward to seeing each of you at our June Chapter Meeting. The highlight of the June Meeting will be an Ice Cream Social, so that you can meet the member of the Chapter.

Executive Assistant

Howdy y'all,

I would appreciate it if all y'all other Board Members would give me your articles via e-mail or in disk format (please, it saves me time and patience). Thanks.

As a new feature of this year's newsletter, there will be a "free for all" section for anyone who wants to put his or her two cents in. It will be open for upcoming events, questions or even if you just need a ride to the meeting; here's your place. I ask that you send it to me by the second Friday of the month so I can make sure that it gets in the newsletter. We didn't get any yet and there is always space.

And there are still several unknown addresses in our Chapter... these will be posted each month and if you have their correct addresses, please contact me with them.

  • Marty W.
  • Raymond C.

Thanks all,

- Alex G.
